Playing Strategy - 7 Card Stud
Before you start to play 7 Card Stud Poker you should remember that there and so many possible hands you could be dealt that you should only play on when you know you
stand a reasonable chance of taking the pot.
Your Initial HandA good starting point is to play a pair with a value of ten or over, but always try and make a note of how your opponents are betting and playing their hand as they may have a higher pair if they are betting very aggressivelyAlways be aware that the Fifth Street is where you will be winning or losing your game, and due to the way the game plays and that fact that the bets are doubling up it is not worth bothering to continue at this point if you are still trying to make a hand. Make Sure Cards Are Still AvailableWith this in mind it is critical that the cards that you are still needing to get are actually still available, as often they may be visible in your opponents hand and as such you stand no chance what so ever of having them dealt as they are already out there and in play. You should be best advised to fold your hand if any of your fellow players exposed hands beat your hand. Should you be trying to make up a hand such as a straight or possibly a flush always check to see if any of the exposed cards are being used by your opponents and if they are then make changes to your strategy. Seventh Card StrategyAnother thing you should base your strategy around is that sometimes albeit very rarely, there could not be enough cards in the deck available to deal all players a separate 7th card. When this happens the dealer is forced to turn up just one card that is on the table, but this will always be a common one to be used by all of the players left in the game. 7 Card Stud Poker - TerminologyIf you are new to the game of 7 Card Stud Poker you will need to be aware of the terminology used as without knowing what terms are used may put you at a disadvantage.Ante - This is simply the amount of cash that every player must place into the central pot before they receive their cards. Street - This is the name given for the many different stages of betting and wagering, 7 Card Stud Poker always starts on the third street (due to players already being dealt three cards). The game always finishes on the seventh street. Door Card - This is simply the name given to the third street as this is your first up facing card. River Card - This is the last card that is dealt also known as seventh street Bring-in - This is the minimum bet that is required at the beginning of the game, the player who has the lowest exposed card makes this wager. |
